About setec consulting engineers

Pioneering a New Standard in UK Engineering

setec consulting engineers is a UK-based multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering complex, high-impact infrastructure across energy, transport, water and the built environment.

We combine the expertise of our UK-based teams with the shared knowledge of setec, one of Europe’s largest independent, engineer-owned consultancies, to design smarter, more resilient and sustainable systems for the future of the United Kingdom.

Our engineers thrive on complexity, providing creative, low-carbon solutions that address the nation’s most pressing challenges, from decarbonisation and mobility to climate resilience and digital transformation.

Innovative and Sustainable Design

Sustainability is not an add-on; it is the foundation of everything we do.

Our teams integrate eco-design, circular economy principles and carbon reduction strategies into each project, ensuring that every asset we deliver supports the UK’s transition to Net Zero 2050.

We actively:

  • Design for low-carbon and decarbonised mobility
  • Reinforce territorial resilience to climate impacts
  • Advance renewable and hybrid energy solutions
  • Promote resource efficiency, reuse and biodiversity
  • Apply our internal environmental impact assessment tool to evaluate and reduce project footprints

Through these actions, we aim to create infrastructure that not only performs but also protects, shaping a sustainable legacy for generations to come.

Engineers & Citizens: Responsible by Design

At setec, we believe engineering must serve both society and the planet. This belief is expressed through our philosophy of Engineers & Citizens, a commitment to responsible practice, ethical decision-making and respect for the environment.

We recognise that every project has a social and environmental dimension. To uphold our values, we apply a Go/No-Go process that allows our teams to carefully assess whether to participate in a project based on its wider impact.

This process includes:

  • A detailed questionnaire to evaluate social, environmental and ethical factors
  • Collective decision-making at committee level
  • A written rationale for every decision, submitted to a dedicated group observatory
  • An annual review to ensure transparency, accountability and continuous improvement

Being Engineers & Citizens means taking action, not only advising our clients on sustainable choices, but also ensuring our own activities align with the principles we stand for.

Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing

Engineering is a collective endeavour. Our work involves close collaboration with clients, contractors, public authorities and communities.

We believe that sustainable progress comes from open dialogue and shared expertise and we actively contribute to working groups, think tanks and technical publications across the UK and Europe.

Through these platforms, we share knowledge, promote innovation and strengthen our contribution to the global engineering community.

The setec Foundation: Engineering with Purpose

As part of our wider commitment to social and environmental responsibility, setec supports the setec Foundation, hosted by the Fondation de France.

The Foundation provides financial and technical assistance to initiatives that promote education, innovation, environmental protection and social inclusion.

Since 2020, the Foundation has:

  • Distributed over €1 million to 60 projects across 15 countries and 4 continents
  • Supported programmes in climate transition, education and humanitarian aid
  • Funded projects through annual campaigns, a transition fund and an emergency relief programme

This shared commitment reflects our conviction that engineering should serve people and the planet not just projects.
